This is a story about a strong love that would overcome all obstacles and even stop a bloody war. Pocahontas was a native chief's daughter. She was eleven when, sitting on the top of a cliff, she saw a big ship in the sea approaching the coast. The ship was full of white people who were searching for gold in the New World. All native tribes were certain that war was upon them and would start as soon as the ship would reach the land. But it turned out that the ship dropped anchor only to replenish its freshwater stores. Captain John Smith was chosen as the explorer of the new land. Pocahontas followed John very carefully, trying to find out what he really wanted from the natives. It is one of the most popular Arabian fairytales, which is a part of the collection ‘The tales of the Arabian nights’. An evil magician desired to own a magic lamp. The lamp was in the cave in China. Unfortunately the magician couldn’t get it on his own. And only one special boy could help him. One day the magician met this boy at the market in China. The boy’s name was Aladdin. Aladdin was very poor and sold bread. The wizard suggested him an agreement. According to it, he would buy all Aladdin’s bread and the boy himself would go with him to some magic place, where the magic cave was… Aladdin’s mission was to go downstairs into the cave and find this magic lamp in the magic garden. But when Aladdin went down and found the lamp, he couldn’t come back. A big stone closed the passage.

This is a catastrophe book with a very dynamic plot, which will keep you in suspense till the very end. The events take place in the city, which is situated near the volcano Dante`s Peak. The city has always been considered as one of the most safe and picturesque places. At least, the young mayor assured everybody in this. However, when Harry Dalton came to this city, she had to doubt about it. Harry Dalton is an experienced scientist-volcanologist. He lost his wife during the volcanic eruption. Nowadays volcanoes are his routine work. Harry Dalton came to this city with one aim – studying of the seismic activity. Gradually he finds the signs of the future volcanic eruption. This book tells us about the myth of Orpheus — the legendary singer and musician of ancient Greece. He was the son of Calliope — muse of the epic poetry and king Oeagrus. When Orpheus was born, his parents made a great celebration. All their relatives and friends came to congratulate the happy family with the gifts. The most welcome guest was Apollo — god of music and light. He prepared something special for the newborn. Apollo gave Orpheus the most valuable thing he had — his lyre. The god of music also predicted Orpheus' future. Kissing Orpheus' forehead, Apollo filled the baby's body by special power. This power gave the opportunity to combine father's music and mother's poetry. And the lyre would open people's hearts and exalt their souls. The masterpiece is adopted poetically and the narration will give real pleasure to the readers.

This is an Arabian folk tale, included in the «One Thousand and One Nights». One merchant had two sons. When the merchant died, the elder son got a heritage and a wealthy wife. The younger son Ali Baba got nothing and married to a poor woman. Ali Baba became a woodcutter. One day he was working in the forest, collecting the firewood. Suddenly he saw forty men in black on the black horses. They came to a huge stone and one of them said, 'Open Sesame'. Something incredible happened: the stone opened an entrance into a cave. Everybody went inside. Ali Baba did the same thing, after the men in black had left. He said the magic words, 'Open Sesame'. The stone obeyed him and he entered the cave. The woodcutter found many treasures there and decided to take something with him.

A father and his daughter are going to rest in a farm, far away from a loud city. The father is a detective inspector Rush. But he introduced himself as a bank employee to the housekeepers. The behavior of the house owners seemed quite strange to the policeman, but his daughter just wanted to have a nice holiday. There were no guests, except them. But everything was pointing, that many people lived at this farm. One day a strange silent man came to the farm. That night inspector Rush woke up. He heard the sound of the gun. The housekeeper assured him that there were some poachers near the farm. Next morning the mysterious guest disappeared. The inspector’s daughter found blood in the yard. So the suspicions weren’t groundless.

The shop was full of different colourful things and perfect good. Strange, but the shop was empty. There were no customers and even salesmen. Monica found a necklace with a blue stone among the goods. A woman in red appeared from nowhere. She told Monica about the stone, which turned out to be an Egyptian scarab. The woman took the girl to another place outside the shop. She treated Monica to a cup of tea and told her the story of the stone. It was used for making the gods statues so it has a mystical strength. Monica felt tired. She fall asleep and saw her late father in a dream.

Sir Thomas started his career in India. He did some secret favor for Rajar of Kashgar. In acknowledgment Rajah presented Thomas a valuable thing — his famous diamond. In his homeland this English soldier became one of the most richest and famous people. After returning to England he married to a rich and noble woman. Harry Hartley was a sixteen-year-old orphan and worked as a private secretary for Sir Thomas. This work was no pleasure. His master was a difficult person. He always shouted and was angry with Harry. Unlike Sir Thomas his wife Lady Vandeleur was kind and friendly. The young servant often carried out many different private errands for her. Unfortunately, the next errand led Harry to the bad consequences.

Geoffrey Chaucer created this book in 1387. At that time the religion was the most important thing for European people. It was very popular to go on pilgrimages. It means travelling to famous Christian cities to be near to God. People said their prayers and asked for well-being or repented about something and supplicated for help. A group of people went on a pilgrimage to Canterbury, a town in England. Their aim was Canterbury Cathedral. At the beginning of their journey one member of the group suggested a game to entertain everybody. All of them had to tell one story. The best story would win a prize at the end of the journey. Everyone had something he wanted to share. The stories were very different. You'll hear much interesting from a Knight, a Clerk, a Merchant, a Franklin and a Pardoner.

Mr Henry Williams is an excellent bank manager and has limited computer skills. He has a good network manager Mike who organized a new computer system in his bank. Everything was going well and when Mr Williams was in Bermuda in his mind, dreaming about holiday, he heard a scream of his staff. All system had crashed. It was awful, computers didn't want reboot. The creators of this collection were just simple guys. They enjoyed collecting and retelling funny local tales. Later they started printing them in the «Guardian» — the famous London newspaper. The stories were quite strange and made the readers laugh. In ten years the authors chose the best tales and published a book «Urban Myths». The book became very popular. Nowadays you can hear these stories on the radio or TV. «Urban Myths» consists of many city stories. Their plot is similar to many stories which are in almost every city on the planet. But it's just a fiction. One can learn one and the same story in different countries. Only the characters will have absolutely various local names.
